SIACES reaffirms its commitment to the validation of best practices, the international perspective and the focus on new substantive challenges from the perspective of university quality

The agencies of the Ibero-American System for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (SIACES) held their IX Plenary meeting in Mexico on May 23 and 24.
Among the issues addressed, three main axes stood out.
The first was aimed at strengthening SIACES' Principles of Good Practice and the validation processes carried out by its agencies. To further this purpose, CNA Chile presented a joint proposal for integrating a gender equity and equality perspective into the Principles of Good Practice document itself.
The second axis focused on the importance of international collaboration to promote quality improvement in the Ibero-American region. At this point, among other issues, numerous experiences of good practices were exchanged through conferences and interventions, the relevance of the Ibero-American registry of accredited careers aimed at the community was discussed and the latest advances of the ESG-PBP Alignment project were presented.
The main objective of this bi-regional ENQA-SIACES project, coordinated by ANECA, is to strengthen mutual trust in the field of assurance and improvement of the quality of higher education between the European region and the Ibero-American region by means of a dialogue on their fundamental reference guidelines in this field with a view to their future alignment.
Finally, the third axis tried to highlight, through different presentations and conferences, the necessary and urgent attention to new substantive challenges from the point of view of university quality. Thus, important topics such as the Culture of Peace in higher education institutions, micro-credentials and lifelong learning, the evaluation of higher education with social relevance, and the evaluation and accreditation of research and postgraduate studies were addressed.
