New information and consultation web section on Institutional Accreditation of Doctoral Schools

ANECA has created a new section on its website dedicated to the institutional accreditation of Doctoral Schools, with the aim of providing clear, accessible, and up-to-date information on this procedure, thus reinforcing the transparency of this evaluation process.

Within the framework of its functions and responsibilities, ANECA has several of its own programs to carry out the institutional evaluation of university centers. The institutional accreditation of Doctoral Schools is structured through a specific evaluation model, implemented by the Agency in 2024. Designed according to the nature and particularities of these university institutions, this mechanism requires ANECA to carry out a thorough and rigorous evaluation process, which includes the preparation of self-assessment reports, evaluation by expert panels, on-site visits to university centers, and assessment for certification of internal quality assurance systems. Once the Agency's favorable report is received, it is the responsibility of the University Council to issue a resolution based on it.

The section provided by ANECA on its website offers Doctoral Schools detailed information about the evaluation model, supporting documentation, the support guide, and contact information for initiating procedures or resolving queries. Since the implementation of this specific model, two Doctoral Schools have already received a favorable institutional accreditation report from ANECA, while many others are currently undergoing evaluation.

Institutional accreditation is an essential tool for strengthening the quality, trust, and visibility of the Spanish university system, as it places the strength of the institutions themselves and their commitment to academic excellence at the heart of the evaluation.
