At the CoARA (Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment) General Assembly, held on December 9, the results of the elections for the new Steering Board were announced, which will include Irene Ramos-Vielba, advisory member of ANECA, as a Spanish representative.

The Steering Board, made up of a maximum of 11 members, is the collegiate body responsible for defining the strategy, the work plan and the supervision of the progress and sustainability of CoARA.

The CoARA Steering Board acts and makes decisions based on the contributions of the member organizations of CoARA. The composition of this body includes members from different countries (a minimum of two representatives from each geographical region) and various types of organisations or their corresponding associations: (1) universities, (2) research centres and research infrastructures, (3) academies and learned societies, (4) public and private research funding agencies, (5) national, regional or research assessment authorities and (6) other non-profit organisations involved in research assessment.

In the electoral process, in which there has been a 56% participation, CoARA adopts mechanisms to guarantee the diversity of the candidates: Types of organization, geographic coverage, gender and diversity of disciplines and fields of knowledge.

Along with Irene Ramos-Vielba, new members of the Steering Board have been elected: Karen Stroobants (Marie Curie Alumni Association), Marcin Palys (USA), Gabi Lombardo (European Alliance for SSH), Cameron Neylon (Curtin University), Hans de Jonge (Dutch Research Council NWO), Stanislaw Kistryn (Jagiellonian University of in Krakow). Henk Kummeling (Ultretch University) has been elected as CoARA Chair.
