  • 08/11/2023

The director of the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), Pilar Paneque, the general director of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), Imma Aguilar, and the president of UNE, María Isabel Cabrera, have delivered this morning the certificates of the CEA-APQ Seal of Quality in Academic Publishing that seventeen editorial collections have obtained in 2023.

The event, held at the headquarters of FECYT, in the auditorium of the National Museum of Science and Technology (MUNCYT), has been broadcast live on the YouTube channels of UNE and FECYT.

The seventeen editorial collections that have obtained in 2023 the CEA-APQ seal of Quality in Academic Publishing have had their scientific and editorial quality recognized, in addition to the period evaluated, for the next five years, after having favorably passed the requirements that this distinction demands in terms of information quality, editorial policy, editorial processes and reputation and prestige.

Pilar Paneque

Pilar Paneque, director of ANECA, highlighted during her speech in this award ceremony the importance of this call which gives visibility to the good practices in scientific publishing and recognizes the fulfillment of relevant criteria such as the informative quality of the collections or the quality of their editorial policy and processes.

"ANECA is joining efforts to advance in the reform of the evaluation of research, which is consolidated throughout Europe, in which university publishers, books and publication in Spanish or in other co-official languages are revalued, and all this, precisely, is perfectly reflected in this seal of quality in academic publishing", said Paneque.

Imma Aguilar

For her part, the general director of FECYT, Imma Aguilar, highlighted the great spirit of collaboration that since 2015 has characterized the relations between the UNE, ANECA, and FECYT and which makes the CEA-APQ Seal of Quality in Academic Publishing possible.  "The three entities have joined forces with the firm conviction that this initiative responds to a need of our national science system to improve and make academic publishing more visible, as well as to promote science in Spanish," she remarked.

María Isabel Cabrera

Finally, the president of UNE, María Isabel Cabrera, emphasized in her speech the impact that the seal has had on academic university publishing in these seven years of life: "It has changed the image of academic university publishing and has confirmed the firm commitment to quality and excellence of UNE publishers, revealing the leading position of the sector".
The president of UNE celebrated the close collaboration between ANECA, FECYT and UNE, which is making it possible for the success of a pioneering project in Europe and America to contribute to the strategic positioning of the book as a tool for the transfer of knowledge, especially in the areas of social sciences and humanities.

In this sense, Cabrera referred to the new CEA-APQ Seal for Monographs, for which forty monographs have competed in its first call and whose resolution will be made public this week.

The president of the UNE also highlighted the collaboration between the three entities (ANECA, FECYT and UNE) "at a crucial moment for the adaptation and design of the research evaluation system to the changes proposed by the LCTI, LOSU, ENCA and the strategic lines of DORA and COaRA, and in order to advance in our commitments to editorial quality and open science".

In this regard, he mentioned the recent creation of the UNE scientific journals portal that makes visible the leadership of UNE publishers in the edition of open access journals and diamond route: "A thousand journals, two thirds of those published in our country, that rigorously comply with internationally recognized criteria of quality and impact", he pointed out.
