ANECA will give the course "The evaluation of teaching performance in the Spanish university system through the DOCENTIA programme: difficulties, success stories, learning and lines of improvement" from 24 to 26 June 2024, within the framework of the summer courses of the Menéndez Pelayo International University in Santander.

The evaluation of the quality of teaching is a central activity in the Spanish university system, involving students, teaching staff, quality agencies and universities, and has been strongly promoted through the DOCENTIA programme. This ANECA programme, created in 2007 and last modified in 2021, argues that teaching is a fundamental part of academic activity and that teaching staff should be recognised and rewarded for excellence in their performance.

Currently, around 90% of Spanish universities participate in the programme. After more than three decades of the programme and the recent legislative changes, it seems necessary to reflect on the state of the question, as well as on the benefits generated in higher education institutions, the difficulties encountered by universities and the needs detected in its implementation. In this course we propose to discuss these issues through two main axes: on the one hand, we will try to evaluate the experience in the evaluation of the quality of university teaching in Spain -through the complementary views of agencies, universities and, of course, teachers and students-, contextualising it in the framework of the DOCENTIA Programme. On the other hand, specific success stories of national and international institutions will be presented and discussed, in order to articulate a collective reflection on the future of the programme, deliberating on the possibilities for improvement and adaptation that may arise.

Those interested can register for the course from Monday 8 April. The UIMP is also offering grants to finance the cost of enrolment, as well as board and lodging. The deadline for applying for these grants runs from 8 to 26 April, inclusive.
