In 2025, 7 centers belonging to the University of Extremadura, the University of Murcia and the International University of La Rioja will be evaluated for the renewal of institutional accreditation.
On the other hand, from 2025, the institutional accreditation of the universities of the Valencian Community, and the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, will be carried out by the Agència Valenciana d’Avaluació i Prospectiva (AVAP) and the Agencia Canaria de Calidad Universitaria y Evaluación Educativa (ACCUE), respectively.
Institutional Accreditation is the transparent mechanism used to guarantee the academic quality offered by university centers following the principles of the European Higher Education Area. This procedure is currently regulated by the Royal Decree 640/2021 of July 27th..
Through the Institutional Accreditation program, ANECA evaluates the applications received from the university centers requesting such accreditation. The procedure consists of several phases. A first phase of initial institutional accreditation is established and, before six years have elapsed, a renewal of such accreditation. This renewal will be cyclical every 6 years. ANECA may agree with the university to carry out a follow-up of the institutional accreditation of the institutionally accredited centers.
