An agreement between the two institutions was signed today at the ANECA headquarters for a period of 4 years.

ANECA and the Colegi Oficial d'Infermeres i Infermers de les Illes Balears (COIBA) have signed today a collaboration agreement by which the Agency will evaluate the research projects that opt for the aids offered by the COIBA.

The collegiate body organises the annual COIBA Grants for research projects for nurses and nurse researchers in the Balearic Islands with the aim of promoting and consolidating scientific-technical research and its subsequent transfer to society. Thanks to this new agreement, which is valid for 4 years, the projects submitted to this call will be evaluated by an ad hoc committee of international experts in the field appointed by ANECA. Both institutions have a common interest in collaborating in the development of actions aimed at quality assurance in research evaluation processes.

The director of ANECA, Mercedes Siles Molina, and the president of the College, María José Sastre, formalised the agreement today in a public signing at the Agency's offices in Madrid. For the occasion, the event also featured speeches by José Ángel Domínguez Pérez, director of ANECA's Teaching and Institutional Assessment Division, and Miquel Bennasar, a member of the COIBA Board and the first professor of Nursing in the Balearic Islands.

The director of ANECA, Mercedes Siles, stressed that among the functions of the Agency is to "support and accompany the advancement and modernisation of knowledge, providing services for the promotion and assurance of quality", a framework in which this action is included.

"Having ANECA for the evaluation of research projects supported by COIBA will be a seal of quality and excellence, and a boost to the prestige of its researchers," explained María José Sastre.

One of the COIBA's strategic lines is to guarantee and promote the improvement of nurses' knowledge, and to this end it supports and promotes research in this field. One of the College's main commitments is to ensure that the professional activity of nurses in the Balearic Islands is in line with and satisfies the general public interest. Along these lines, it carries out initiatives such as this one, which promote and contribute to the constant improvement of the quality of the professional services provided by the nursing profession, through research, training and improvement.
