ANECA participates in the General Assembly of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA)

ANECA has participated in the General Assembly of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA), held on December 10, 2025 with the attendance of around 250 representatives from universities, quality agencies and research centers around the world. The purpose of the meeting was to elect the future members of the CoARA Steering Board and to share the progress of the work carried out by the TIER (Towards and Inclusive Evaluation of Research) and RMI (Responsible Metrics and Indicators) working groups, as well as to highlight the work of the national chapters that make up the coalition and the Cascade Funding grantees. Finally, the impact of CoARA at the national level, specifically on university rankings, was discussed.

During the Assembly it is worth mentioning the participation of María Blanco Palencia, ANECA collaborator, representing the Spanish National Chapter of CoARA, co-led by ANECA, CRUE, CSIC and ISCIII.

The Spanish National Chapter was invited as a speaker to highlight its work of special relevance among the national chapters of the coalition this 2025, with the publication of its first collective report on the reform of research assessment - “Mapping Institutional Approaches to Research Assessment Reform: Insights from the CoARA Spanish National Chapter”, which includes both common trends and shared challenges, as well as concrete examples of initiatives implemented by universities, research centers and evaluation agencies.

In addition, the organizational structure and practices used to carry out the work of the Spanish National Chapter were shared with the rest of the participants in the Assembly.
