The National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), Crue Universidades Españolas and the Ministry of Universities are working on the inclusion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda in university curricula, in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 822/2021, which establishes the organisation of university education and the procedure for quality assurance. Specifically, this regulation states in article 4 (points 2 and 3) that the curricula of official degrees must have democratic principles and values and the SDGs as a reference point.

To this end, the Curricular Sustainability Working Group, which belongs to the Crue-Sustainability sectoral commission, has drawn up a report with proposals for the application of this RD. The president of this Crue sectoral committee and rector of the University of Burgos, Manuel Pérez Mateos, and the president of the Crue committee for the 2030 Agenda, Santiago García Granda, presented this work to the Minister of Universities, Joan Subirats, at a meeting held on 22 May, and to the director of ANECA, Pilar Paneque, at another meeting held on Wednesday, 31 May.

"The harmony between Crue and ANECA's management has been complete regarding the need to include in ANECA's evaluation protocols criteria that guarantee contents and competences related to sustainability in university curricula", celebrated Rector Pérez Mateos after the meeting with Pilar Paneque. He also indicated that ANECA is committed to using the simplest possible procedures to facilitate the work of the degree committees.

The director of ANECA has expressed her intention to make a proposal to the Spanish Network of University Quality Agencies (REACU) in the coming days and has expressed her interest in the University, Knowledge and Agenda 2030 Awards of Crue, Fundación Carolina and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), which aim to reward Bachelor's and Master's degree final projects (TFG and TFM) whose theme is based on one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
