The pace of evaluating accreditation applications for the ACADEMIA program is picking up again

Last June, the Agency evaluated 262 accreditation applications submitted in accordance with the procedure set forth in Royal Decree 678/2023. This figure is lower than usual, as it has not yet been possible to resolve the IT issues—which arose from causes beyond ANECA’s control, as we reported in last month’s AAD—that we mentioned in last month’s AAD.
In July, we will be able to resume evaluations as normal, so we expect to return to an average processing time of no more than 6 months between September and October (August being a non-working month). ANECA’s management and its accreditation committees are committed to taking all necessary measures to restore the processing pace that had already been achieved in previous months.
In June, the average rate of positive evaluations for tenured faculty was 72%, while the average success rate for chair accreditations stood at around 45%.
The publication of this data provides an account of the commissions’ actual work. On this occasion, the average resolution time per commission is not being published because it would not accurately reflect reality, due to technical problems that have prevented most accreditation commissions from meeting and conducting a normal evaluation. The key point is that all accreditation committees have, for all intents and purposes, completed the evaluation of applications submitted before December 17, 2025, with the exception of a few cases, requests for supplementary documentation, and the final decisions on the preliminary rejections that were communicated.

Positive and negative decisions (resolved applications).
Procedural decisions (requests for supplementary information, proposals for negative decisions, and proposals for dismissal due to non-compliance with the mobility requirement for PTU accreditations, or the research excellence requirement for CU accreditations requested by individuals already accredited at the PTU/PPL level).
