ANECA and FOLEC-CLACSO discuss trends and best practices in scientific and academic evaluation

The management of ANECA and representatives of the Latin American Forum on Scientific Evaluation of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (FOLEC-CLACSO) have met to share experiences in the field of scientific and academic evaluation.

FOLEC-CLACSO is a forum for debate on the meanings, policies, and practices of scientific evaluation processes in Latin America. From an open, collaborative, and public domain perspective, it seeks to strengthen democratizing and sustainable approaches and models for evaluating science that are committed to the issues facing our societies.

Since its formalization in 2019, FOLEC-CLACSO has promoted an intense work agenda that includes the development of reports, tools, and actions aimed at building more responsible evaluation policies, in dialogue with international trends related to open science.

At this first meeting, ANECA and FOLEC-CLACSO shared their experiences and common interests in key issues such as the training of those responsible for evaluation, the assessment of the social impact of research and other academic activities, as well as fundamental issues of new evaluation models, such as the integration of gender perspective, research ethics, academic integrity, and multilingualism.

It should be noted that, since January 2022, FOLEC-CLACSO has been part of the Executive Board of DORA (San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment), and that since January 2025 ANECA has joined the Steering Board of CoARA (Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment). In this context, both institutions have exchanged views on evaluation processes and will initiate lines of collaboration to leverage synergies and move towards evaluation systems that are more fair, inclusive, and aligned with the needs and challenges of society.
