ANECA's institutional agenda for June includes participation in major academic and scientific forums

Throughout the month of June, the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) maintained a prominent institutional presence at various academic and scientific events, in line with its commitment to the dissemination and transparency of its evaluation activities and the continuous improvement of the university system.

Pilar Paneque, the Agency’s director, participated in several events of national significance, addressing key issues related to research evaluation, knowledge transfer, and the role of science in society.

On June 11, she participated in the conference “Percientex 2026: Journalism for Scientific Integrity,” held in Barcelona. Alongside other experts—scientist and science journalist Rodrigo Pérez Ortega and Mira Petróvic, who holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry—Pilar Paneque participated in a discussion on the role of journalism as a guardian of scientific integrity and a detector of fraud and misconduct in research.

A few days later, on June 15, the director of ANECA spoke at the “Humans on AIr” series of events, organized by the University of Granada. This session was dedicated to analyzing the new model for evaluating academic careers in the current context, and it addressed issues related to the implementation of CoARA at ANECA, outstanding challenges in the evaluation process, and the role of AI in both scientific production and evaluation.

On June 18, ANECA’s leadership was invited to attend the 18th edition of the Frontiers of Knowledge Awards, presented by the BBVA Foundation in collaboration with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). This participation is part of the Agency’s ongoing relationship with the BBVA Foundation regarding the Leonardo Scholarships and their recognition—along with that of other similar programs—in state accreditation processes.

Subsequently, on June 22, the Agency participated in the “Meeting with ANECA: Evaluation of Knowledge Transfer and Exchange Activities,” organized by the University of Seville. During this event, Pilar Paneque focused her presentation on the evaluation of knowledge transfer and exchange in six-year review and accreditation programs, providing an overview of ANECA’s activities in this area over the past two decades. This session also featured Irene Ramos, an advisory member of ANECA, who had the opportunity to present the Agency’s framework document on knowledge transfer and exchange.

For her part, the director of the Faculty Evaluation Division, Susana Quicios, took part in the program for the Second Meetings of the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities with research staff. In her talk, delivered on June 23, titled “The Evaluation of Research Staff Performance,” she addressed current criteria and approaches to the evaluation of university faculty and research staff, as well as the advances promoted by ANECA in this area.

ANECA’s participation in these meetings highlights its active role in the debate on quality assessment in higher education and research, as well as its commitment to transparency, scientific integrity, and the generation of knowledge with social impact. Through these initiatives, the Agency continues to consolidate its role as a leader in strengthening the university system and promoting assessment practices aligned with European and international standards.
