Analysis of University Employment Databases

A project aiming to analyse the information provided by university employment units has been set up, in cooperation with these units, within the framework of the Graduate Employment Observatory.

The aims of the project are:

  • To recognize the factors (in particular those concerning identification and conceptualization of the job requirements for university students called for in the labour market) that improve the employment possibilities of university graduates, within the framework of the service provided by the university employment units.
  • To understand the situation and exploitation of the databases of employment units, involving no transfer of personal data between institutions.
  • To set up best practice patterns for the design and management of university employment units databases.
  • To set up a balanced framework that fosters cooperation between employment units and ANECA´s Graduate Employment Observatory, with the aim of exchanging information.

The call for applications to participate in this project was opened on October 27, and by December 12 the Assessment Committee had selected 41 universities to provide information. Besides, out of this selection the committee chose 26 universities to create the working groups for each stage.

The mission of the working group appointed for stage I, headed by the University of Salamanca, is drafting a report about the current situation of employment units’ databases. This report will be useful for the rest of the working groups when launching their activities, which must result in: a report including the results achieved along 2006, a guide for setting up best practice patterns for the design and management of databases, and a pattern to set up the relation between the Observatory and the employment units in order to exchange information about graduate employment. The project is expected to be completed by November, holding a meeting to disseminate and analyze the results obtained.
