Article 27 of Royal Decree 1393/2007 , which lays down the organization of official university Programme Degrees, states “as soon as implementation of the educational courses for the recognised degrees entered in the Register of Universities, Centres and Degrees (RUCT)  has commenced, ANECA or the assessment bodies determined by the Autonomous Regions Act will monitor the performance of the project as stated in the Programme degree approved by the Council of Universities”.

The amendment to the above legal text, adopted in Royal Decree 861/2010 on 2 July, underscores the importance of the monitoring process within the quality assurance system, specifically dedicating an article to the basic regulations for this phase.

The monitoring period for official degree courses spans from the academic year following the inscription of the degree in the RUCT to the moment the degree is due to undergo the accreditation renewal procedure.
