Pilar Flores Cubos (UAL) and Emilio Sanz Álvarez (ULL), receive the ANECA Hélice Award for Academic Excellence
Pilar Flores Cubos, Professor of Psychology at the University of Almería (UAL), and Emilio Sanz Álvarez, Professor of Pharmacology at the University of La Laguna (ULL), have been awarded the first edition of the ANECA Hélice Award for Academic Excellence. The jury's decision was made public at ANECA’s 20th Anniversary celebration ceremony, held on the 21st December in Madrid.

“Support, modernisation, transparency, equity, momentum, and quality” are “the essential elements of ANECA’s new stage guiding our work”, stated the director of ANECA, Mercedes Siles Molina, at the Agency’s 20th Anniversary celebration on the 21st December in Madrid.

Institutional visits to the universities of Valladolid, Pablo de Olavide and Comillas
The ANECA Directorate maintains its round of visits to Spanish Universities to share ANECA’s plans of action with the rectors and hear the institutions’ concerns first-hand. In the second half of November, visits were made to the University of Valladolid, the University of Pablo de Olavide (Seville) and the University of Pontifical de Comillas (Madrid).

2021 Meta-Evaluation of the International Quality Labels Programme (IQL)
ANECA started the 2021 meta-evaluation of its International Quality Labels (IQL) program to identify improvements to be implemented in the 2022 call. This annual evaluation goal is based on the results obtained in the satisfaction surveys completed by the universities and evaluators who participate in the IQL program each year.

ANECA participates in New Horizons in University Quality conference
The New Horizons in University Quality conference was held on 11 and 12 November in Tenerife, promoted by the Spanish Network of University Quality Agencies (REACU) and jointly organised by the Canarian Agency for University Quality and Educational Assessment (ACCUEE) and the Madrid Knowledge Foundation. Representing ANECA were director, Mercedes Siles Molina, and José Ángel Domínguez, head of the Agency’s Committee for Internationalisation.

The role of National Agencies in promoting equal opportunities
The director of ANECA, Mercedes Siles Molina, participated in the round table on quality, excellence and inclusion: quality labels, presenting the quality criteria for universities and the processes for improving quality and academic excellence. The table was organised as part of the International V Conference on Universities and Disability: Inclusion in the new higher education mode ., organised by the ONCE Foundation and the University of Salamanca, from 20th to 22nd October.

Visit to the University of the Basque Country
Strengthening relations between ANECA and the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), whilst establishing the university's needs, were the main objectives of the meeting held on 26th October in Bizkaia Aretoa by the director of the Agency, Mercedes Siles Molina, the manager, Lázaro Rodríguez Ariza, and the director of the Faculty Assessment Division, María Concepción Fernández López, with the rector of the UPV/EHU, Eva Ferreira.

The National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) has announced the Hélice Award for Academic Excellence with the aim of acknowledging teaching staff of Spanish universities and other higher education institutions that have stood out for their commitment to academia and excellent public service in accordance with the agency’s quality-driven principles and values.

Meeting of the Governing Council of ANECA
ANECA's Governing Council met on the 13th of October, under the chairmanship of the Secretary-General of Universities, José Manuel Pingarrón Carrazón. In the report, the director of ANECA presented the activities carried out in recent weeks, including the progress made on the alignment of criteria between the three accreditation programs: PEP, ACADEMIA and Sexenios, coordinated by the director of the Teacher Evaluation Division, and summarised the general principles and guidelines for the development of the publicly exposed criteria through the hashtag #ConversacionesConANECA.

Presentation on the self-assessment of employability report
On Friday, 10th September, ANECA presented its report developed with 64 Spanish universities at its headquarters. The meeting shed light on the joint efforts to provide a reference guide that contributes to the improvement of the universities in terms of employability.

On 10 September, ANECA will present the report developed with 64 Spanish universities in a face-to-face meeting at the Agency's headquarters in Madrid. It is a meeting to give visibility to the work developed jointly to provide a reference guide that contributes to the improvement of the actions of the universities in the field of employability.

ANECA and SEPIE collaborate on the internationalisation of the Spanish university system, academic diplomacy, training and mobility
The director of ANECA, Mercedes Siles Molina, and the director of the Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education (SEPIE), Alfonso Gentil Álvarez-Ossorio, met to take stock of both organisations’ activity in the internationalisation of Spanish universities and join together in a dynamic collaboration to maximise efforts.

Four universities to take part in the International Quality Label pilot project for WFME Medicine studies, managed by ANECA
With procedures underway for ANECA to become a recognised agency of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) to be eligible to evaluate the International Quality Label for official Medicine studies, the Agency has selected the four universities to participate in the pilot project of this new international accreditation.
