AUDIT

The EHEA framework and the changes made in Spanish regulations stipulate that universities should implement formally established and publicly available policies and Internal Quality Assurance Systems (IQAS). In accordance with the above, in 2007 ANECA developed the AUDIT Procedure.

The purpose of this procedure is to promote the development and implementation of Internal Quality Assurance Systems at Spanish university centres, and put into practice a procedure leading to the recognition and certification of such systems.

The AUDIT model of evaluation is in line with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG), supporting universities striving to fulfil the recommendations given in Part 1: Criteria and guidelines for internal quality assurance.

The AUDIT Procedure unfolds in 3 clearly defined stages:

1.   Guidance for IQAS design.
The Agency provides universities with guidance on Internal Quality Assurance Systems for their education programmes.

2.   Certification of IQAS design.
During this stage, external quality assurance agencies perform a recognition and certification process on these IQAS design.

3.   Certification of implemented IQAS.
Following certification of IQAS design, the centre commences its implementation. Subsequently, the Agency proceeds to certify the IQAS implemented at the centre.

Following the launch of the AUDIT Procedure in 2007, having fulfilled all the targets set for the IQAS design certification stage, with 80% of universities participating nationwide, a new stage comprising IQAS implementation certification was addressed, for which a pilot project was run during 2013 with the participation of seven universities. On completion of this stage, since 2013 ANECA offers universities the opportunity to take part in the call for IQAS implementation certification at university centres.

Both of these calls, for design evaluation and IQAS implementation audit, are open at present.
